Why I’m in NAN — New MD, Bayo Onanuga

Bayo Onanuga, the new Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria has pledged to “improve things” and ensure that the agency “gets better’’.
Mr. Onanuga made the pledge while addressing some staffers of the agency in Abuja on Thursday.
“I want to assure all of you that I have not come to disrupt a lot of things here,” Mr. Onanuga said.
“I have not come to take anybody’s job; what I have just come to do is to see how we can improve things in NAN; that’s is my own mission – to see how we can get better.
“I am a consumer of NAN (products); I have a large appetite for NAN products.
“I consume a lot of NAN products; and I know that all of us outside there, who are subscribers to NAN, most of us – 85 to 90 per cent – are reliant on NAN.
“That shows you how big NAN is.
“We should all endeavour to make sure that NAN remains the number one reference for anybody, who wants news about Nigeria.
“In all my over 30 years of consuming NAN, very rarely have I seen people disputing NAN stories.
“NAN is highly credible.
“I will not be an MD that will just sit down in my office; you will see me knocking at your door always.’’
Mr. Onanuga said he would do a lot to improve productivity and ensure that NAN remained the credible source of news about Nigeria that it had always been.
He said he would work closely with the management team of the agency to make it the best news in the country.
Earlier, the acting Managing Director of NAN, Jones Afolabi, said NAN management team would corporate with the MD to move the agency forward.
“You have a management team that is very supportive; we pray to God to give you the grace to move the agency forward,’’ he said.
He congratulated the MD on his new appointment and wished him good luck.
