Fayose & Dr. Omirin
The 19 members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly were today ambushed by thugs and men of the Nigerian Army at the popular Itawure in Ekiti on their way to Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
The lawmakers, all members of the All Progressives Congress, APC were prevented from proceeding to the state capital to continue with their impeachment plot against the State Governor Ayo Fayose.
The controversial governor has been served impeachment notice served via e-mail.
The soldiers prevented them from going further and shunned the protest by the lawmakers who claimed they had applied for police protection in a letter to the Inspector General of Police which was granted.
A copy of the letter dated April 2, 2015 (shown below) stated that they needed the police protection in order to discharge their legislative duties.

A source said the soldiers who laid ambush for the lawmakers may have been led by a Brigadier General, whose name had featured prominently in the Ekitigate rigging tape saga.
However, as the lawmakers were allegedly delayed by the soldiers at the spot, thugs numbering over 80 were said to have emerged brandishing dangerous weapons and made to attack the lawmakers before they turned back from their journey .
